  1. Wow, what a fantastic shot. The petals could be beautiful porcelain. So many shots of poppies come off looking insipid, somehow, and this one is absolutely striking.

  2. Gorgeous poppy, Michael. We are heading to LA next week to catch some color. Crazy stories of the bad behavior in these super bloom places. Hopefully it will be flourishing soon here.

    • Thank you very much, Jane. We are going to Southern California in mid April. I’m thinking that in late April, Point Reyes might be blooming. And perhaps the meadows of Mount Tam?

      • Even last year, Pt. Reyes was amazing. Yes, Mt. Tam and we love to hike on Matt Davis- usually there are good poppies there. I think we may try to see Carrizo Plain when we are down south.

      • Thank you. It’s good to get some confirmation on those locations. What do you think about mid to late April for those locations? We will visit Carrizo Plain in mid April. And Antelope Valley.

      • Agree about confirming. I think it’s a good time in a couple weeks. We went to Antelope Valley two years ago on April 8 (I know the date because my granddaughter was born that day) and it was in full bloom and gorgeous. Have you been to Carrizo?

      • Have not been to Carrizo. Have you? I’m investigating places to stay. Seems like San Luis Obispo is the closest. It’s about an hour and a half away from the actual plain, which is a pain, I don’t really have to explain.

      • We were thinking Santa Barbara but it’s still almost two hours. Still need to do more research…recently it was reported that the roads are impassable with mud. They are not paved. Hopefully it is drying a bit but it’s pretty rugged overall.

  3. I like the degree of openness (ripeness?) of the poppy. The petal edges are so delicate and the depth of color has a pleasing intensity and that dark background really sets the bloom off well. Very nice, Michael.

    • Thanks very much, Steve. I was trying to get as close to the “ideal poppy” as I could. I’m pretty happy with it. Let’s see how close I come this season. Poppies are starting to bloom…
