June 28, 1018 — Cape Saunders, Otago Peninsula, South Island, New Zealand

If you go due south from this spot, you’ll come to Antarctica. If you go due east, you’ll hit South America. Either way, it’s chilly. It wasn’t all that warm right where we were on this winter afternoon, either.

This is sort of how it looked. Kind of.

  1. Ah! Now this is the kind of ‘south’ talk I understand, no translation necessary. Thank you very much Michael, I’m delighted to see this and it’s a stunning image. Deceptively warm appearance for a southern NZ view and it’s very impressionist. My feeling of connection with this scene is intense … it’s beautiful and amazing. Absolutely gorgeous! See, I like it.

  2. It doesn’t necessarily looks as cold it was. I feel like I’m there, trying to look beyond what I actually can see. Lovely, subtle colours!

  3. Nice little bits of the setting sun below the horizon hitting some of the clouds’ nether regions. I imagine those thin wisps hanging low were contributing a smidge to the ocean. I look forward to what follows.

  4. Interesting…I like that rosy tint on the clouds halfway down, or up. And that line of deep purple clouds just above the horizon, far, far out. I can get into this one. 🙂
