July 9, 2020 — San Mateo County, California. Feb 12, 2021 My Office.

On February 9, we lost Chick Corea. A phenomenal composer, pianist, arranger, and producer. A mentor. A marvelous human being.

Here’s an excerpt from his farewell message:

“It is my hope that those who have an inkling to play, write, perform or otherwise, do so. If not for yourself then for the rest of us. It’s not only that the world needs more artists, it’s also just a lot of fun.”

This is also for my friend, Diane, who departed on the same day. I’m sure she agreed with every word.

  1. The hazard of getting old; an ever increasing number of people one grew up with, drop by the wayside.
Life is terminal, but hay-ho we have photography and in a hundred years time, someone may see one of out images and say “I wonder who made this”.

  2. It seems like we are losing people of note on a daily basis. I always enjoyed Corea’s work in both jazz and classical arenas. So sorry about the loss of Diane. Aging is difficult as we lose loved ones. This image certainly expresses a few emotions.

      • I’ve always read the obituaries to keep track of both people I know and our store’s customers. I am now at the point where a goodly number of the folks who have passed on were younger than I. Not the same as losing a friend, of course. On the one hand it makes me feel privileged to have the years I keep acquiring, number 73 on this coming Thursday, but on the other hand it means my time is coming…hopefully still in the distance.
