August 25, 2019; Beachy Head, The Seven Sisters, East Sussex. Our trip started with a ten-day workshop with Oliver Klink and ended with a one-day workshop with Rachael Talibart. Both have been judged Black and White Photographer of the Year by globally respected publications. Both have deep and diverse backgrounds. Both are superb mentors. Both are wonderful human beings. Our cup runneth over.
We knew at the outset that we weren’t going to get anything even remotely close to Rachael’s Sirens. For that you need storms and storms come in the winter. But maybe something serene…
That wasn’t going to be easy. Not on the Sunday before UK’s August Bank Holiday. Not in a heatwave where the temperature was 88 F (31 C) on the coast. I would guess that half the population of England was on the beaches under the Seven Sisters trying to escape the heat that day. (I tend to exaggerate, but the beaches were the most crowded Rachael has ever seen, and she’s lived on or near the south coast of England all her life.)
Things calmed down at blue hour, as they often do.

Fine shot, Michael! The empty space on the right half balances the cliff on the left. Love the silence; the colors and the touch of last sunlight on the top of the cliff; almost time for the lighthouse to do it’s job. 🙂

This is pleasantly low-key. The one contrasting bit of direct sunlight on the cliff is also low-key, at least for sunlight.

This image does express calm which you were able to enjoy once the festivities drew to an end. I saw these in reverse order. Had I seen this first I would have actually used that forbidden word which I see you have used here. 🙂
Funny. We have Seven Sisters here too. Mountains, hills compared to those you have out west, that are part of the Holyoke Range that I post occasionally.

Serene/serenity. Forbade by you in a distant post. I must admit to having a bad connotation to the word…read, adult incontinence…but you found it overused in critiques.

I’ll be interested to read the explanation. I am not sure if it nauseates me, but I feel very unkindly toward the word “pre-visualize”. People get it from Ansel, so they think, but he never uttered the “pre” part.
