March 23, 2013. Filoli, near Woodside, California. I have not one single clue what kind of flower this is. But here it is.
I made many attempts at doing this justice over the years and it wasn’t until three and half years later that I was satisfied. It kept calling me back till I finally got it right. It was its own muse.

I wasn’t even sure it was a flower. Time and increased skills will bring old images a new life.

It’s a flower for sure. I have no idea what kind. And regarding your comment about time and increased skills, spot on.

I needed to peer at this and am no closer to a conclusion! apart from that it is a fascinating shot.

How that rich red got in there with all the white is a mystery.

I was hoping you would be able to identify it. Despite my love of flowers for photography, I’m terrible at identifying all but the most common. That is the richest red I have ever seen this side of a Ferrari.

Sorry, but my botanical knowledge is limited almost entirely to native species in central Texas.

I think I would like to have some photos that are their own muses, especially if they’re as nice as this. It doesn’t happen often.

It’s like a stranger in a strange land….I can see why you returned, and it’s a good thing you did.

It is isn’t it? I found it a bit haunting. Question: did you get an email notification on the day I posted it?

The reason I ask is that some of the regulars who normally come to my blog, didn’t — but only on that one specific day. So I wondered if WordPress goofed somehow.

I did get one, I think on the same day.

Love the minimalism in this, and just that red….

It is the red that kept beckoning me back trying again and again to turn the original frame into something long-lasting.
