On a bluff a hundred feet above a very calm Pacific. The summer fog was advancing. Fifteen minutes later there was nothing to see; the ocean was but a distant sound.

Just spinning; what do you think about Haar and Fret. Coastal fog is a regular occurrence along the eastern coast of the UK where we live and is most common during spring and summer. In eastern Scotland, it is known locally as Haar whilst in our part of East England, the coastal fog is referred to as Fret.

Thank you. I don’t know Harr and Fret by name but I like them for the same reason I like our California fog, which also comes in the summer. The California fog is why Mark Twain once said that the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco. It’s our natural air conditioner.

Utterly gorgeous – It’s amazing that the sparkles are there, the burgeoning clouds way off can just be seen, the water is obviously moving, and yet everything blends into everything else. This one really hovers right in the middle of abstract and real. 🙂

This is a lovely view, Mike. We have a nice thick fog here today but without the mesmerizing ocean sound.
