August 6, 2019; Vevey, Switzerland. While archiving shots from Europe, I came across this gem. It harkens back to the August 7 post. It was taken about two hours before the blue one near the bottom of that post. It pays to go back over old shoots: I’m still discovering work from that trip. There are more images of this magic two and a half hours and you may well see some in the future.
One of my all-time favorite color combinations is a green leaf against a grey sky. Subtle though it may be, this one does it with water. Unfortunately, WordPress seems to dull colors, so the green is not so apparent in this rendition.
I was thinking of JMW Turner during post-processing.
(Canon G7X II. RAW processing in DxO PhotoLab 2.3, Editing in Adobe Photoshop.)
Very nice: a symphony in grey, along with an eye-catching diagonal of clouds. No one would have trouble seeing the grays, but many (me included) would have trouble detecting any green without your mention of it.
By a happy coincidence, I alluded to Turner in my post that appeared a few minutes ago.

Thank you. Yes, the green is subtle and WP seems to alter colors to a noticeable degree. The green is more apparent in PS.
And, great minds…

Turner and Eliot Porter are constant influences when I’m doing landscapes. This one captures such strong mood and I can see Turner in the sky especially. The coloration is very subtle and its discovery is an added pleasure to the entire.
Lately I have also been revisiting images, especially those from last year just prior to this time when I went on an unwelcome hiatus. Like you, I am finding the occasional overlooked gem.

As I said to Mr. Schwartzman regarding Turner, great minds… It is the sky that is Turneresque.

I’ve tried and tried, and can’t see the green: not on my PC, and not on my iPad. Obviously, devices make a difference. It certainly doesn’t diminish my admiration for the photo. The sight of rain moving across the water is common here, but having the right vantage point to capture the drama of clouds and an accompanying rain shield isn’t always possible.

WordPress seems to do something to the colors. The green is subtle but nonetheless apparent in Photoshop. Anyway, I’m very glad you like it.

Beautiful, Michael! Yes, very reminiscent of JMW Turner. The clouds and rain(?) beneath them, to me, especially.

Thank you. Indeed, that is a rain squall. It nearly so does a little while later.

Wonderful! I love Turner, but I was actually thinking about William Tell, and the part in his legend when there’s a storm on the lake, although that was supposed to happen on Lake Lucerne, not Geneva. (And there we are again, back in Upstate!)

Many tones of black, gray, blue on this beautiful photograph.
I really like the shape of clouds and, would it be a big cloud of rain that we see in the background or a thinning?

Thank you very much. The shapes of the clouds were changing every minute. It was an enthralling drama. That is a rain squall that you see.

The cloud is amazing. Very well seen.
But the whole composition is really fantastic, with a great dramatic and darkish atmosphere.

Thank you very much. It was a very dramatic scene, and it kept changing. I may post more photographs of this sometime in the future.

Dramatic and monochromatic beauty, Michael. You captured a great angle on the clouds and rain. Terrific image.

Thank you very much. My wife captured the same image but interpreted it quite differently. That in itself is fascinating to me.

You’ve mentioned Turner before and no question, this has a Turneresque feeling. I don’t see the green either but along with everyone else, I admire the beauty here. The composition sings.

Thank you very, very much. The green was a delicate balance in post production. On a well calibrated screen in Photoshop it looks greenish. WordPress seems to dull colors. I’ve noticed this before.
