More big surf at Ocean Beach. Weather Service said 20 to 25 feet and they were right.

I shot 1,946 frames with an eight-pound camera/lens in a little less than three hours. Good upper-body exercise. Some of those shots used fast shutter speed and some slow. Some with camera held steady and some with intentional camera motion. Interesting phenomenon: Some ICM shots of heavy insane surf end up looking very calm. That could possibly become the basis of a philosophy if one needed some intellectual exercise.

  1. The rough and the calm are one: sounds like something from Buddhism.
One photo frame less and you’d have paid homage to my birth year. As it was, you celebrated my wife’s.
It seems strange for a Pacific beach to be called Ocean Beach, as that name could equally well apply to all other Pacific beaches.

    • I am working on a theme: calm and chaos. And I’m happy to have celebrated your wife’s birthday. It is interesting that Ocean Beach could really apply to any beach on any ocean. San Francisco, being the head of a peninsula, has beaches on the bay as well. So, in theory, to reduce ambiguity one would say let’s go to Ocean Beach rather than simply saying let’s go to the beach. Just a guess.

Looks like Steve beat me to the thought, by chance are you really Michael Confucius? Isn’t Digital just wonderful? Oh those days of that stuff called Film…1946 frames! I hope many were from Burst setting. Anyway, keep up the good work

  3. Calm in the middle of a storm, yours and the hurricane’s eye. If you were tired from all that shooting imagine all the loading of film to pull that off plus 1946 cock and shoot actions. I imagine not all of the ICM was intentional. 🙂
