July 25, 2020 — San Gregorio, California; The past few days — My Office Here’s the simple reason for my prolonged absence. Obsession. I’ve been deeply immersed in a Black and White post-processing and printing workshop which is taking me apart piece by piece as a photographer and gradually reassembling me with new eyes and new skills. I’m getting closer, but still not finished. (Not quite finished with the workshop. I’ll never be finished learning.) […]

November 6, 2020 — Point Reyes National Seashore, California Still absent from regular appearances in the blogosphere but I wanted to let you know that I’m still alive. Here’s a hint as to what I’ve been up to. A work in progress, but I’ll tell you: not a bit of color in this one, folks. (Nikon D500, Tamron 100–400mm f/4.5–6.3 Di VC USD. RAW processing in DxO PhotoLab 4.0.2; Editing in Adobe Photoshop.)

August 12, 2020 — Marin County Coast, California It’s easier to have one’s head in the clouds if the clouds are at or only slightly above sea level. The California coast is famous for sea-level clouds in the summer. We locals call it fog. (Nikon D850, Nikon 24-120mm f/4G VR. RAW processing and initial editing in DxO PhotoLab 3.3; Final editing in Adobe Photoshop.)

January 26, 2020 — Reynisfjara (Black Sand) Beach, Iceland We’ve been home since the second of February. There has been enough time to sift through the bounty and select the best and you’ve seen quite a bit. It’s very possible that more will pop up after they’ve had a chance to marinate on the archive drive for a while. We shall see. One thing is certain: we will go back. One more thing: Iceland has […]

January 26, 2020 — The Thórbergur Center, Hali Country Hotel, South Coast, Iceland As we returned to our hotel and eatery after a morning shoot, she and I gaped gasping at the gray glory of the sky. While the others ducked into their warm and dry rooms, we got as close as we could to the edge of a sharp slope that ended at the edge of a partially frozen lagoon. Not wanting to take […]

April 11, 2019. Mojave Desert west of Lancaster, California. Cause of death of this once proud (okay, probably never proud) shed was most likely neglect. But it might have been electrocution. We’ll never know. It is a little too close to some menacing power lines as it sits forlornly by the road that leads to the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve. So there’s that. This photo is possibly the first time in a long time that […]
