Sometimes you move back to express the essence.
Sometimes you move in.
And sometimes, months later, you re-crop even tighter.
Because with all the smoke and heat here in Northern California, I wanted something cool and cleansing.

I have to say I prefer the former version, mainly because of the wave action going on in the upper right corner, only a portion of which is carried over into the current version. That leads to a question: did you consider a version of the original in which you cropped off the bottom one-third or maybe even one-half to create a panoramic view?

Thanks very much, Steve. This is a perfect example of different parts of an image of an appeal to different people. What I wanted to concentrate on was the interaction of light and dark in the center of the image. To me, all the rest was distraction. However, this leads to a slightly different question since the entire thing is a crop of a much larger image. What if I concentrated on that wave action that you like and made that the center of the frame? I might try that.

Switching from one to the other, the crop makes perfect sense. I like focusing more on that part but I’d also like to see another crop with the other part of your image…

Wishing you an end to the smoke and fire season…I can’t blame you at all for leaning toward anything wet and fresh. In fact, this one makes me think of some fabulous drink in a frosted glass.

Beautiful. It is of course far from a one size fits all (LOL! no pun intended!) but I’ve many times found that tighter cropping can produce more eye-catching results. 🙂

Thank you very much. This is actually a tighter crop of the original tighter crop which was from an already tight crop. Eventually I’ll get down to one pixel. 😉
