June 19, 2020 — Point Reyes National Seashore, California . . .Had Turner been on the beach at Point Reyes with a camera. Which, of course, he wasn’t. This is an experiment in ICM — Intentional Camera Motion. As one might expect, the subject was moving as well, as waves are wont to do. (Nikon D850, Nikon 24-120mm f/4G VR. August 13, 2006, Big Sur Coast, California / June 27, 2017, Silicon Valley, California Gray day. The streak on horizon was the appeal. It was all there was. Shoot. Crap shoot, really. This was long before I was shooting RAW, so no direction home in editing. Gray on gray on gray. Blah. Nothing. You’ve got to be taught to hate and fear You’ve got to be taught from year to year It’s got to be drummed in your dear little ear You’ve got to be carefully taught You’ve got to be taught to be afraid Of people whose eyes are oddly made And people whose skin is […]

January 17, 2012 — Sonoma County Coast, California Returning with new eyes to a shot taken eight years ago. I’ve just competed a series of webinars by Bruce Percy. He describes himself as a black and white photographer working in color. His sensitivity to tonal balance is inspirational and very instructive. This shot is pretty much the same as the way I left it the last time I worked on it almost three years ago, […]
